Sorry for being so late with this, I didn't expect the end of the month to be so busy for me.;;

If you want, this post is open for discussion of the book Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell! Don't be shy about it. :)

I'm going to open the next book rec post within the next few days, so if you can, prepare a small list of books you really want to read with us please♥

If you have them, post them.

Can be anything you want us to talk about. Anything (related to the book).

This isn't required and you can always bring things up in the comments when we open the discussion post in a few days, but whatever questions or discussion topics you comment with here will have the option of being totally anonymous if you're totally shy like that. Or want people to for-sure see your question/discussion topic/whatever.

Comments are screened, please tell me whether you want your username attached to your question(s) or not.

Everyone asked for an extension, so the new end date will be March 27th. It's the last weekend in the month, hopefully everyone won't be too busy so we can try to have some actual discussion on the book. :)

Don't forget about the spam post gais♥

The tentative end date for Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell is March 1st, but I understand that this book is a lot longer than what most people were thinking. Add to it the fact that February is the shortest month of the year and that this first round is meant to test the waters on how this book club will run in the future, we're looking at extending our reading time.

I don't just do this because I love polls either.

Would you/do you need the due date extended past March 1st (5 days from now)?

Yes.

Honestly, we do not mind extending the due date, this round is all trial run so please vote with yourself in mind.
pfft, let's pretend I didn't spell Norrell wrong. BT

It's completely optional, but while you're reading, if you want to spaz about a certain part of the book or a character or groups of character or whatever, you can do it here and maybe someone will spazz out with you.

To avoid spoilers, PLEASE put the page and/or chapter number into the subject of your comment. Hopefully people will be smart enough to look at that before reading your comment.

HAVE AT IT.♥

According to the poll, we'll be reading Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell by Susanna Clarke!

I have yet to find a downloadale pdf file for those who need it, but I think it's pretty easy to find the audio book online. If you really want to spend the money, you can buy it at
Amazon.com
Barnes&Noble.com
Borders&Books.com
and Other Places (maybe other people can suggest better places to buy from).

But I would definitely suggest cruising your local library before that.

Tomorrow I'll leave an open post for everyone to, if you want, leave random comments about the book as you're reading. I have a feeling I'll be stalking the threads, at the very least;;

The tentative end date is March 1st, but I understand that February is a short month and this is our first go, so if you need more time, just leave a comment here when it comes closer to the end of the month. If we get enough people not having finished yet, we'll extend it.

If you're having trouble finding the book (or the audio downloads online), just ask for help, I think we're all pretty helpful in a crunch around here♥

Have a look at all the books suggested and take a vote on which one you would like to read. You have TWO votes to your name, you can put them both on one book (just leave a comment telling me you want your two votes to go to that one book), separate them between two or only vote once, it's up to you (DON'T DO NOTHIN STUPID NOW).
If it comes to a tie, I have one vote that will be used as a tie-breaker.

Poll closes February 1st, 11:59pm PST.
This poll is closed.

A book discussion club is a group of people who meet to discuss a book or books that they have read and express their opinions, likes, dislikes, etc.

Every month, the club, as a whole, will pick out one book to read collectively. Preferably it will be a book everyone can pick up from their local libraries.

If the book of the month doesn't stimulate you enough, you have the option to opt-out. We won't force you to read a book you'd really rather not read.

As the month progresses, we will have a post open for people who want to leave random fly-by comments about the book (chapter or page specific).

At the end of the month, we'll have a post with questions regarding the book, whether you liked it, disliked it, liked the setting, but not the characters, liked the characters, but not the setting, etc.
Spam is encouraged. Flailing is encouraged. Nice bashing of the book is encouraged (if you really hated it that much).

Discussion is totally and completely open, but wank towards another book club member is a ban-able offense.

We will try to keep the monthly new-book schedule, but since this is an online book club and not everyone has awesome libraries or money to buy the books, it might get delayed once and a while.

A poll will be posted for members to vote on whenever it's time to chose a new book.

I kind of don't expect this comm to go beyond my own social circle (as tiny as it is), but you're always welcome to invite people along. Talking with people you don't know is expected, we'd like people to be active.
